This summer, there were rumors that Paris Saint-Germain was eyeing Lamine Yamal as a potential successor to Kylian Mbappé. However, FC Barcelona is focused on securing the teenager with a contract extension and a salary that will keep him content and fend off interest from other clubs.

Mundo Deportivo reported during the summer that PSG was ready to break its own transfer record, offering as much as €250 million—surpassing the €222 million they spent before—to sign Yamal.

According to MARCA, the Spanish club is preparing a huge new contract for him. Yamal will turn 18 on July 13, 2025, and once he’s of legal age, he could sign an extension with Barça until 2030, which would come with a substantial pay raise.

Barcelona’s fears of PSG making a lucrative offer are based on accurate information as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that there was a point that the Parisians were at one point ready to make an offensive approach for Yamal.

“It was before the transfer window opened, between April and May,” Romano said on his YouTube channel (h/t Le10Sport). “I can confirm that PSG, last season, realized that Mbappé was likely to leave for Real Madrid and seriously considered making a record offer for Lamine Yamal—over €200 million.

“They never sent this proposal. There was no official offer, not even negotiations because FC Barcelona and the player didn’t want to talk to any club. But internally, PSG thought about making a record offer for Lamine Yamal, more than €200 million.

“It didn’t happen because Lamine Yamal is very happy at Barcelona. For Barça, Yamal is crucial in the project, the face of this new project. There was no chance, but the reality is that PSG really wanted to go for it and try.”
