Fabrizio Romano has just answered a big question that has been on the lips of many Chelsea fans since the announcement of Levi Colwill’s season ending injury last night.
The Blues seemed pretty happy with their defensive setup, but things were thrown into disarray by this injury. Now a key player is out, and with Wesley Fofana’s injury status never stable, there are major doubts about our centre back situation for the year.

One suggestion was that the Blues could nix the sale of Renato Veiga, who came close to moving to Atletico Madrid for £40m and is being shopped around Europe.
But transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has said that’s not the case. Veiga will still go – unless no buyer is found at the right price.
Instead, Romano says the Portugal international will leave – and the club will instead look at other potential options on the market, with Marc Guehi looking the most likely at the moment.
This is totally in line with what we’ve been thinking. Chelsea have clearly already been accounting for the money they will get for Veiga, potentially even in the deal to sign Jorrel Hato, who is his obvious replacement in the squad.
Even if they might have considered keeping him from a purely football point of view, the player trading side of things says to sell high on a player we got cheap a year ago.
From the player’s point of view, he’s also been left out of the Club World Cup squad and told to find a new team – so he’s probably not desperate to be reintegrated to help out Chelsea.
As long as we still find a buyer for him – and there appears to be solid interest – this can still end well for everyone.
