Francesco Farioli was presented as the new head coach at FC Porto on Monday afternoon. The Italian left Ajax at the end of last season and has spoken proudly, looking forward to his next challenge in Portugal.
Farioli has signed a two-year contract with FC Porto. The Portuguese giants hopes to compete for the national title again, after last season they finished in third place, 23 points behind champions Sporting Portugal.
“I know what needs to be done to become successful and competitive again”, Farioli said at the press conference.
“We still have a long way to go. I believe we will play at least 50 games, and we want to go far in all competitions. From July 11, we have to be united. This is an iconic club with a rich history. The club represents a certain mentality and spirit. I am also very passionate, and I am someone who coaches very actively.”
Farioli was open about facing a big challenge in Porto. “The president was very clear from the first meeting: he shared a deep analysis and was critical of the past season. We quickly had a connection and agreed on what needs to happen. Every player who is with us now will have a chance to show himself. I have no prejudices and want to judge everyone fairly. We already have a clear idea of the positions we want to strengthen.”
