FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund clash in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The hosts will be searching for their first victory in this season’s UCL while the visitors aim to maintain their unbeaten European start.
Copenhagen will be without several key players through injury. Magnus Mattsson remains sidelined for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury sustained in August, while defender Rodrigo Huescas is also out with a knee problem.
Veteran striker Andreas Cornelius and former Dortmund midfielder Thomas Delaney are both doubtful after missing Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Silkeborg. However, Mohamed Elyounoussi is expected to return after sitting out that match.
Former Dortmund prodigy Youssoufa Moukoko is in contention to face his old club. The 20-year-old joined Copenhagen on a five-year deal in June 2025 after scoring 18 goals in 99 appearances for BVB. Speaking ahead of the match, Moukoko reflected: “In Dortmund, the coach was always to blame if I didn’t play. In Nice, I learned to look at myself first”.
Dortmund will continue without captain Emre Can, who remains sidelined with a long-term groin injury. Young winger Julien Duranville is also out after undergoing shoulder surgery in July.
Serhou Guirassy is expected to lead the attack after a remarkable start to his Champions League career. The Guinean striker has scored 16 goals in his first 20 Champions League appearances. Head coach Niko Kovac has previously described Guirassy as the club’s “life insurance” due to his consistent goal-scoring form.
Karim Adeyemi has been in electric form as well. His recent strike against Wolfsburg was clocked at 126 km/h, making it the most powerful shot of the campaign. Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl praised the forward: “At the moment, he’s probably the best Karim Adeyemi we’ve seen here at Borussia Dortmund”.
Jacob Neestrup’s side is enduring a difficult spell. Their Champions League campaign began with a 2-2 draw at home against Bayer Leverkusen before a 2-0 defeat away to Qarabag. Domestically, they have only won just one out of their last five Danish Superliga matches, including a 3-1 loss to Silkeborg on 17 October where they trailed 3-0 at half-time.
Niko Kovac’s side suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker. However, their Champions League campaign has been impressive. They started with a 4-4 draw against Juventus in Turin, followed by a commanding 4-1 victory over Athletic Club. The Black and Yellows currently sit seventh with four points from two matches.
