FC Porto complete national clean sweep in football 28 years on | OneFootball

In a season finale filled with reasons to remember, FC Porto cemented its status as the only club in Portugal to achieve a clean sweep of national football titles, after adding the under-15 trophy to those already won by the senior team, the under-19s and the under-17s – a feat not seen for 28 years and one the Dragons had already repeated in 1985/86 and 1997/98.

The first team celebrated its 31st national title and the 87th trophy in the club’s blue-and-white honours list, returning FC Porto to the top of the ranking of Portuguese clubs with the most official titles. Ahead from the opening matchday and alone at the top from the fourth, the side coached by Francesco Farioli produced the best first half of a season in its history, with 49 points from a possible 51, and finished the league on 88 points thanks to 28 wins, four draws and two defeats.

In a campaign in which they earned the distinction of best defence, the National Champions recorded more clean sheets (21) than goals conceded (15) and had five players in the Team of the Year: Diogo Costa, Alberto Costa, Jan Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior and Victor Froholdt. The Danish midfielder was also named Best Young Player and Best Player, while Francesco Farioli took the award for League Coach of the Year.

A week later, the under-19s were crowned National Champions for the 24th time, winning a title that had eluded them since 2018/19. Victory came in dramatic fashion, with a Duarte Cunha goal deep into stoppage time against FC Famalicão (3-2). Leaders from the start, Sérgio Ferreira’s side scored more than 100 goals over the course of the season, in which Eduardo Ferreira netted 24 and finished as the top scorer.

The story was not much different for the under-17s, who achieved a goal that had been missing since 2011/12 with clear dominance throughout the competition. In first place across all 36 matchdays of the championship, split into two phases, José João’s players collected 94 points – 30 wins, four draws and two defeats. The most prolific attack in the Championship Qualification Tournament (52 goals) had Tcherno Jamanca as the competition’s top scorer, with 35 goals.

Inspired by the example of their elders, the under-15s won the missing trophy and completed the clean sweep of national football titles. After finishing the Northern Series ten points clear of second place, the team coached by Manuel Prata maintained that level in the final phase and secured its 15th championship, a trophy that made FC Porto the club with the most titles in the age group. Tiago Portugal stood out as the competition’s top scorer, with 35 goals.
