Fede Valverde receives rare ’10’ L’Équipe rating for performance in Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City | OneFootball

L’Équipe are infamously harsh with their player ratings, however, Fede Valverde (27) received the publication’s top rating for his performance in Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League win over Manchester City on Wednesday night. 

Valverde was exceptional in Real Madrid’s win over the Premier League side, netting a first-half hat-trick in a comfortable 3-0 win. As well as giving the Uruguay international a rare ’10’ rating, the publication added the following:

Stratospheric. The perfect match, marked by three goals each as beautiful as the other, and all of which melded finesse and intelligence of movement and sensational technical quality. Beyond his hat-trick, he won back an incalculable amount of balls by systematically compensating for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s errors and didn’t lose the ball on a single occasion.

Valverde says performance against Manchester City was ‘best of [his] career’

His performance against Manchester City now puts him in a small category of players to have received a ’10’ rating from L’Équipe. There are only 19 others. The most recent players to receive the rating both play for Paris Saint-Germain. Joao Neves earned the rating for his performance against Toulouse FC earlier this season, whilst Désiré Doué earned a ’10’ for his brace in the UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan.

Valverde said post-match that his performance against the Premier League giants was “the best of [his] career”.
