Yéremy Pino and Nico Williams remain in the World Cup picture, though doubts persist, particularly around the Athletic Club winger. The federation said in a statement that both injuries are moderate and that their availability will depend on how they progress.

Radiology ruled out a fracture for Pino, with an acromioclavicular sprain diagnosed. The Crystal Palace footballer’s issue is therefore not as serious as first feared.

Williams has a right adductor muscle injury after a heavy challenge in the match against Uruguay. It is not a relapse of an earlier problem, although his muscle record this season means caution is required.

Neither player has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament, and there is a chance they could feature in some of the remaining games, with the final set for 19 July in New Jersey. The injuries differ in nature, with Pino potentially able to push through, even with an injection if needed, while Williams cannot be risked because it is muscular.

Williams left the stadium limping heavily after facing Uruguay. Considering recovery time and his recent dip in form, his prospects for the remainder of the World Cup appear minimal.
