Manchester United are increasingly keen on signing Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco, and the latest update confirms just how determined they are.

Left-back transfer need

Patrick Dorgu impressed when used as a makeshift left winger. It almost felt as though he had been misprofiled as a full-back when, in truth, his natural instincts belong further forward.

Unfortunately, injury cut short his promising spell at left wing, but once fit, the expectation is that he will continue in the wide attacking role.

With Dorgu now viewed more as a winger, there is a growing belief that the Red Devils will look to add another specialist left-back to their ranks.

Federico Dimarco

That reinforcement could well be Dimarco. The 20-time English champions are long-time admirers of the Inter Milan full-back.

Last month, as part of their broader recruitment strategy, INEOS dispatched scouts to watch the 28-year-old during Inter’s clash with Juventus.

Dimarco clearly impressed, which explains why Football Transfers are now reporting what they are.

The UK outlet confirms the obvious: the Manchester Reds are one of the clubs closely following Dimarco’s situation.

They note that Dimarco’s current deal runs until June 2027, yet extension talks have so far borne no fruit.

Inter remain hopeful of tying him down with a bumper new contract, and the player may favour staying. However, with nothing signed, suitors sense an opportunity to prise him away from San Siro.

United’s willingness to pay

INEOS believe Dimarco is attainable and are warming up to negotiations with the Serie A leaders. As Football Transfers state:

“The Red Devils would look to start negotiations at around €45 million, but they could be prepared to go as high as €60m to get their man.”

Whether United’s persistence and financial muscle ultimately bear fruit remains to be seen.

Luke Shaw’s heir

What is clear, though, is that Dimarco would be a superb addition. With his cultured left foot, blistering pace, whipped crosses, and ability to create chances in volume, while also scoring from distance, he would supercharge United’s left wing.

In many ways, Dimarco looks the perfect heir to Luke Shaw, offering both defensive assurance and attacking dynamism on the left.
