Manchester United need an elite replacement for Casemiro in the summer after the Brazilian announced he would be leaving at the end of the season.
INEOS prefer Premier League-proven talents, which explains why Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Sandro Tonali are among the club’s top targets.
However, each of them is expected to cost a bomb, and hence, the co-owners have been forced to keep backup options ready.
Among them is Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund, who has impressed since arriving in the Bundesliga.
The best part: the 25-year-old came up through the ranks at Manchester City and even represented their first team on three occasions before moving to Wolfsburg first, and then Dortmund.
The Germany international can play all across midfield and, this season, he has five goals and three assists to his name.
Naturally, his form has attracted interest from plenty of England’s elite sides, with the likes of City and Chelsea all looking at the German.
Now, Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Dortmund have agreed a contract extension with the midfielder, with his new deal valid until 2030.
“BREAKING: Borussia Borussia set to extend Felix Nmecha’s contract. It’s decided. Agreement reached after breakthrough talks with Sebastian Kehl. New deal expected to run until 2030.”
His Sky Germany colleague, Patrick Berger, added that Felix Nmecha will become one of Dortmund’s highest earners following the renewal.
“He will be among the club’s top earners. Big move for Dortmund, who were aware of interest from several top Premier League clubs.”
This new contract does not mean a move is beyond the realms of imagination this summer but it does strengthen Dortmund’s hand.
Felix Nmecha is likely to fetch a premium fee in case any side consider bidding. And United are better served looking elsewhere.
