Negotiations between Everton and Fenerbahce over a swap deal involving Youssef En-Nesyri and Beto have failed, according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
Manager David Moyes wants to bolster the Toffees’ striking options, and the Morocco international has been on his radar.
The Merseyside club requested En-Nesyri when the Super Lig club asked them for Beto. However, the Moroccan is not keen on joining Everton, and talks have stalled.
Fenerbahce had earlier reached an agreement with Juventus to sell En-Nesyri to them and have been waiting for his decision.
Aston Villa have also been linked with En-Nesyri, but they are closing in on a move for Tammy Abraham.
Juve are also monitoring Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and could move on from the Moroccan if they sign him.
Everton may need to look elsewhere as it appears En-Nesyri wants to join a club that regularly challenges for major silverware and plays in the Champions League.
The Toffees are tenth in the Premier League table after 22 games, but they need to get better at both ends of the pitch in their remaining 16 matches if they want to play in Europe next season.
Everton have scored just 24 league goals this season, with their three highest goalscorers having four each.
They need someone capable of hitting double digits every season to establish themselves as a regular top-six club, and Moyes will hope to sign one before the end of the winter transfer window.
