Fenerbahce’s Europa League match against Anderlecht was suspended for 15 minutes due to crowd trouble, according to the Mirror.

The Turkish team opened the scoring through Youssef En-Nesyri in the fourth minute of the game at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium on Thursday.

However, the referee subsequently ordered the players off the field and the match was suspended after he was alerted to a security issue.

Video footage on social media showed brawls breaking out in the stadium between rival sets of supporters.

Players from both teams tried to defuse the incident, including former Manchester United star Fred, but they were pulled away from the trouble by their teammates.

Riot police rushed into the stands to deal with the disorder, while stewards also intervened.

The players returned after around 15 minutes to continue the match.

Luis Vazquez restored parity for Anderlecht soon after the restart, and he added another in the second half to spark hopes of a surprise comeback.

But Yusuf Akcicek struck to level the scores at 2-2. Fenerbahce claimed a 5-2 aggregate win to qualify for the last-16 of the Europa League.

They will now face Rangers or Olympiacos in the next round of the competition, with the draw scheduled on Friday.
