A judge in Alcobendas has ordered Real Madrid footballer Ferland Mendy to stand trial after one of his dogs allegedly bit a 17-year-old and attacked two other dogs, one later put down.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, a January 2026 order opens oral proceedings for an alleged injuries offence, sets bail at €7,410 and assigns a Madrid criminal court, with no trial date yet.
Prosecutors seek a €1,200 fine and €5,700 compensation to cover physical harm and veterinary surgery. The private prosecution asks for six months in prison and a €22,500 fine for physical and moral damages and recovery days.
The case stems from 4 January 2023, when one of Mendy’s four Kangal dogs escaped his property. The prosecution says he failed to secure the gate after a vehicle entered, leaving the large animal unsupervised on the street.
Near a housing estate, the dog went up to another being walked by its owner and bit its back, causing severe injuries that led to euthanasia after specialist veterinary care.
A 17-year-old walking his own dog saw the attack and went to help, suffering a bite to his left leg. His dog sustained neck and chest wounds and an avulsed canine tooth requiring surgery.
The teenager was left with four scars on the left gastrocnemius of up to two centimetres and needed surgical treatment with stitches, healing in 30 days.
Prosecutors also state the four dogs lacked microchips, mandatory civil liability insurance and rabies vaccination.
The judge has admitted Mendy’s questioning as the accused, with a French interpreter, and will hear the teenager, his father, the owner of the euthanised dog and Alcobendas Local Police officers as witnesses.
