FC Barcelona ended their Coliseum Alfonso Perez curse as they secured their first away La Liga win against Getafe since 2019.
A Fermin Lopez strike close to half-time broke the deadlock for the Catalans before substitute Marcus Rashford made it 2-0 in the second period to secure the victory.
With the win, Barcelona have moved a step closer towards lifting the La Liga title, having now opened up an 11-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid.
Speaking to the media after the match, Fermin expressed his satisfaction with Barcelona’s victory over Getafe as well as his gratitude towards Pedri for the assist.
“Getafe defends well, and in that recovery, Pedri played me an incredible pass, and I was able to score,” he said regarding his goal.

Reflecting on the match, Fermin elaborated: “We were very aware of what was going to happen here. We were going to have a few opportunities, and we played well, we competed, and offensively we scored the ones we had.”
After scoring the goal, Fermin paid tribute to his injured teammate Lamine Yamal, pulling out the teenage winger’s usual 304 celebration. Explaining the gesture, he stated:
“I’m sending him a hug from here. He’s very important to us, it’s a shame he can’t play, but the important thing is that he recovers well and is ready for the World Cup.”
Finally, when asked whether the league title is already decided, he remained cautious, saying:
“We know we have a big advantage, but there are still games to play. We can’t relax; I know it’s a cliche, but it’s the truth. We’ll try to keep this up until we become champions.”
