This summer is shaping up to be one of the biggest in the life of Barcelona and Spain forward Ferran Torres. After scoring the winning goal in the 2026 World Cup final, he could now be set for a move to back-to-back European champions Paris Saint-Germain, although the Catalans are very keen to retain his services while also tying him down to a new contract in the coming weeks.

Torres’ situation has garnered a lot of speculation in recent weeks, although there is unlikely to be clarity until he returns to Barcelona. He’s currently spending him away from football after playing his part in Spain’s World Cup triumph in North America, and his celebrations in the days after the victory over Argentina garnered a lot of attention.

Torres wore a Donald Trump-esque cap during the celebrations, which read “Make Spain Great Again”. There was a lot of discourse as to the meaning behind the message – particularly whether it was politics-driven – although the man himself has now clarified the matter in an interview with CNN (via MD).

“It was a fun moment. It wasn’t about politics because I honestly don’t understand politics, it was simply for the fact of being able to see Spain at the top again winning the World Cup. It was simply to have fun with my friends and family, but nothing about politics.”

Will Torres leave Barcelona this summer?

In the coming weeks, more will be known regarding whether Torres will still be a Barcelona player by the start of next month. PSG are keen to advance their interest, although they will not do so until they receive encouragement from him and his representatives.
