The report states: “TEAMtalk understands that Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Ferran Torres from Barcelona, as the Catalan giants explore creative solutions to ease their ongoing financial constraints.”

Torres already has experience of playing in the Premier League with Manchester City, having spent a season and a half at the Etihad. The Spaniard has been in fine form this campaign, registering 16 goals and one assist in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Torres’ ability to operate on the wings as well as through the centre in attack makes him a lucrative option for the Red Devils. The 26 year old is under contract until 2027 and, while there have been talks regarding a renewal, there have been no concrete steps yet.

With Barcelona still facing financial issues, Torres now appears to have been deemed surplus to requirements. The report adds: “As part of their strategy, Barca have explored possible player exchange opportunities involving both Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.”

“Sources confirm that Torres has been offered to both clubs as part of those discussions with intermediaries doing their work on possible landing spots for the former Valencia man.”

United considering a move

United are long-term admirers of Torres and were also linked with the player in 2025. While the move never materialised, it now appears that the Red Devils could have the opportunity to finally get their hands on the Spaniard this year.

The report from TEAMtalk adds that the Premier League giants are enticed by the possibility of signing Torres, but any move will be separate from that of Rashford. The report states: “We are told the Old Trafford hierarchy are intrigued by the opportunity and hold a positive view of the player.”

“Sources stress that any deal for Torres would be separate from negotiations involving Rashford. However, bringing Torres in could influence United’s stance on whether to sanction another loan move for the England international.”

Arsenal are also eyeing Torres with interest, with Mikel Arteta reportedly a fan of his countryman.

Torres registered 19 goals and seven assists for Barcelona last season and could be a fine addition to United’s squad. He is yet to reach his prime and could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business in a couple of years.
