France’s run to the World Cup semi-finals guarantees the FFF at least 25.8 million euros from FIFA, enough to balance the tournament budget but little more.
According to L'Équipe, staging costs in the United States have been steep, even with no trips to Mexico or Canada. Travel, hotels, security, player and staff bonuses, and ticketing left the federation exposed had results dipped.
Before flying to Boston, FFF president Philippe Diallo warned many federations would struggle to break even at this World Cup and said France needed to go deep. He set reaching the semi-finals as the minimum to avoid a loss.
After beating Morocco, the FFF is assured of 27 million dollars (23.6 million euros) for fourth place, plus 2.5 million dollars (2.2 million euros) to cover preparation costs. That second sum was initially 1.5 million dollars (1.3 million euros) but FIFA increased it after complaints, notably from European associations.
A third-place finish would be worth 29 million dollars (25.4 million euros). Defeat in the final brings 33 million dollars (28.9 million euros), while the title pays 50 million dollars (43.7 million euros). The additional 2.5 million dollars also applies in each case.
The FFF had budgeted for a quarter-final in its 2026-27 season plan, so the current run leaves it on target financially.
