FIFA announced on Monday evening the match officials for the opening four fixtures of the 2026 World Cup, with Brazilian referee Wilton Pereira Sampaio appointed to take charge of the tournament's curtain-raiser.
The 44-year-old will be assisted by fellow Brazilians Bruno Pires and Bruno Boschilia, while Paraguay's Juan Gabriel Benítez has been named as the fourth official.
The VAR team for the opening match will be led by Colombian official Nicolás Gallo, with Chile's Juan Lara serving as assistant VAR.
FIFA also confirmed the officials for three other opening-round matches. Egyptian referee Amin Mohamed will oversee the clash between South Korea and Czechia, while Argentina's Facundo Tello has been appointed for Canada's meeting with Bosnia.
Meanwhile, Dutch referee Danny Makkelie will take charge of the fixture between the United States and Paraguay.
The appointments mark the first referee selections announced for the 2026 World Cup, which gets under way on 11 June.
