New York New Jersey Stadium plays host to an intriguing FIFA World Cup 26™ showdown on Monday as Norway take on Senegal.

Here is everything you need to look out for in the Group I encounter.

Who is playing today? 👀

These sides had differing starts to their FIFA World Cup™ adventures on matchday one.

Erling Haaland did what he does best with a brace and Leo Østigård also chipped in with a goal (in an addition to an OG) as Norway got off to the perfect start with a 4-1 thrashing of Iraq.

Senegal played well in their opener and Ibrahim Mbaye gave them brief late hope which was quickly extinguished but they had the misfortune of coming up against Kylian Mbappé and co. and fell to a 3-1 defeat to France.

Haaland could hardly have gotten his World Cup™ career off to a better start as he netted twice and has now scored in each of his last 11 competitive outings for his country, including multi-goal outings in each of his last five.

The elegant Martin Ødegaard also continued his goal involvements streak with an assist and misplaced just one of his 42 passes against Iraq, while also being responsible for 50% of his team's defensive line-breaking passes - as many as the opposition managed combined.

For Senegal, the excellent Mbaye has the world at his feet and became the youngest African scorer in FIFA World Cup™ history at the age of 18 and could make history by becoming the only teenager to score in each of his first two appearances in the competition.

They'll have to be defensively sound and much of that may rely on Krépin Diatta's work rate, who completed 100% of his tackles and dribbles against France, won 90% of his duels and had no French player successfully dribble past him.

Must-watch video 🎥

Norway's rowing tradition has proven a popular hit with captive new audiences in the USA - but we didn't expect to see it in local government!

Fun facts 📊

  • The only previous meeting between these nations was a 2-1 win for Senegal in Dakar in March 2006
  • Since a heavy loss to Austria in October 2024, Norway have won their last 11 straight competitive games, scoring 50 goals in the process and conceding just seven
  • Of nations competing at the 2026 World Cup™, Senegal are on the second longest run of games without a clean sheet in this competition, having conceded in each of their last 12 dating back to their 1-0 win over France in the 2002 opener

Our prediction 🔮

  1. Norway 1-1 Senegal
