Fiorentina ‘to open’ talks for Roma’s Matias Soule amid Sunderland and Villa interest | OneFootball

Sunderland and Aston Villa face fresh competition for Matias Soule, with Fiorentina ‘to open’ talks over the Roma winger. TuttoMercatoWeb reports the Viola plan to speak with Roma once they first find an agreement with the player and his representatives.

Soule, an Argentina Under-23 international, has 12 goals and 13 assists in 81 games for Roma since joining from Juventus in summer 2024. His form is said to have attracted interest in Italy, England and the Saudi Arabian Pro League.

As it stands, Sunderland have made one signing this summer, Belgium international Thomas Meunier on a two-year deal after leaving Lille. Head coach Regis Le Bris wants to add precisely, likely six or seven rather than the 14 recruited last year, and says the market is slow so decisions must not be rushed. Europa League participation will add at least eight fixtures, with the league phase featuring clubs such as Juventus, Marseille and AC Milan.

Sunderland have been linked with Leicester centre-back Ben Nelson and Bodø/Glimt attacker Jens Petter Hauge. Reinforcements out wide are a priority over the next seven weeks, and an ambitious move for Soule has been floated in recent days.

The report states Soule earns about €2.5m per season, a high figure for Fiorentina but not impossible to reach. Further talks are planned in the coming days, and it adds the player would prefer an experience abroad, with the Premier League his target, although there have been no official approaches from an English club.
