The FIFA Club World Cup is Real Madrid’s clear and sole objective this summer and Florentino Perez is obsessed with the idea of making sure the Merengues go all the way.
His efforts in bolstering the squad for the event speak volumes on his commitment to the idea.
After all, Real Madrid are one of the most decorated teams in the history of the sport. As 15-time UCL winners, they are firmly engraved as one of the greatest sporting institutions in the world and have won everything there is to conquer.
The new Club World Cup, however, is a novel idea that is being implemented for the first time. The idea is to have a tournament like the World Cup for clubs that will be held quadrennially to celebrate the sport and crown a global champion.
Becoming the first-ever winner of the Club World is a matter of prestige and comes with bragging rights that will last at least four years until the next iteration.
As relayed by Fabrizio Romano, the winners will also get exclusive rights to show off their stature by incorporating a special badge onto their kits for the next four seasons.
The crest will be golden in colour with white borders and the words ‘World Champions’ and ‘FIFA’ embossed on the same.
Needless to say, it would be an honour to grace that badge until 2029 and Real Madrid must leave no stone unturned to ensure it is theirs.
Xabi Alonso will take the team to the United States for the event and will have new signings like Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold for the event.
The tournament in the United States kicks off in just over two weeks and Real Madrid will be pitted against Al Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg in the group stages.
