Luís Castro’s decisions underpinned Grêmio’s win over Atlético-MG, with five standout calls shaping a controlled display.

Grêmio played with an extra man from 16 minutes after Natanael’s dismissal. According to Globo.com, that advantage did not diminish five correct calls made by the head coach.

The first was starting Pavon at right-back. He offered more bite than João Pedro or Marcos Rocha, plus depth in tandem with Enamorado, which balanced a previously left-leaning side.

Gabriel Mec also came in as the playmaker. He had changed the Juventude match off the bench, meriting a start and fitting the role profile.

Together, Pavon, Enamorado and Mec produced a front-foot set-up. Even before the red card, Grêmio were already hemming Atlético-MG in.

Castro’s fourth call was to start Nardoni. Despite a quiet outing and an early booking, he preferred him to Dodi because the hierarchy had strongly backed his potential.

The fifth was a correction after a misstep. At 23 of the second half Dodi replaced Gabriel Mec, which dropped Grêmio deeper, then at 39 he brought on Jefinho for Nardoni to add vertical passes and relief, with seven minutes stoppage time still to play.

The dismissal was decisive in Grêmio’s control, yet the team largely kept a firm grip within the conditions. Viery’s error for Victor Hugo’s goal, and the brief spell after it, were the exceptions.
