Five uncertain situations Real Madrid cannot ignore this summer

Real Madrid have already splashed more than €150 million this summer, bringing in four new signings.

Despite that, the club is far from done. Under new manager Xabi Alonso, Madrid are planning more additions to strengthen the squad before the 2025/26 season.

But there is one major issue holding them back – the squad is already full. This means before they can register any new arrivals, Real Madrid need to trim the team.

Several players now find their place in the squad under threat, and tough decisions need to be made. Here’s a closer look at five players whose futures are now up in the air.

Rodrygo

Rodrygo is easily one of the most valuable players in the team, both in terms of market worth and potential transfer fee.

Real Madrid are not looking to let him go for anything less than €100 million. However, interest in the Brazilian has slowed down. Liverpool are no longer pushing, Arsenal’s interest has faded, and Bayern Munich have other priorities.

The only club currently showing real intent is Tottenham Hotspur. Backed by new investment, they are ready to spend big. But even then, Madrid are considering lowering their price tag slightly, with the figure now around €90 million.

Rodrygo, for his part, wants to stay. But with no guarantee of regular playing time under Alonso, he’s waiting for a conversation with the manager to help him make up his mind. His situation is delicate and a transfer cannot be ruled out.

David Alaba

David Alaba is another big name who could leave. Although the club is open to letting him go on a free transfer, the 33-year-old is not interested.

He is currently the sixth-choice defender but does not want to miss out on his final year of wages, a huge €22.5 million.

Madrid tried offering a settlement to release him early, but he rejected it. Saudi clubs are still a possibility, but time is running out.

Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy is in a similar spot. Despite having a contract until 2027, his injury history and age (30) have dropped his market value to just €14 million.

The club recently signed Alvaro Carreras, which only adds to the pressure on Mendy. He is the left-back most likely to be sold, but offers have been scarce so far.

Dani Ceballos

Dani Ceballos’ situation is slightly different. Madrid are open to selling him, but only if they can bring in a replacement.

With Jude Bellingham expected to miss the start of the season and no other signings confirmed, selling Ceballos without a backup would leave the midfield too thin.

He is still hopeful of making the 2026 World Cup, so game time is crucial for him. Real Betis are interested, but can’t meet the €20 million asking price.

Endrick

Endrick was supposed to be one of the breakout stars this season, but the sudden emergence of Gonzalo Garcia has complicated things.

Both players are young, full of potential, and play in similar positions. Madrid now face a dilemma – should they keep both, or send Endrick out on loan?

If Endrick does leave, it will only be on a temporary basis. A loan would allow him to gain experience while reducing competition up front.

But no final decision has been made yet, and Alonso will have to weigh up the pros and cons carefully.
