Flamengo thrashed Madureira 8-0 on Monday to reach the Campeonato Carioca final, yet Filipe Luís will not continue as head coach from Tuesday. The decision came hours after the emphatic win.
The club said in a statement that he would not remain in charge. It added that assistant coach Ivan Palanco and fitness coach Diogo Linhares would also leave.
Flamengo thanked the former player and coach for his work and wished him success in the next stage of his career.
The departure follows an unstable start to 2026. Flamengo lost the Supercopa do Brasil to Corinthians and the Recopa Sul-Americana to Lanús of Argentina.
In the Campeonato Brasileiro, the team sit 11th with one win from three matches. They had also flirted with a place in the relegation quadrangular in the state competition.
Supporters have criticised performances under Filipe Luís. During the Lanús match at the Maracanã, a section of fans directed abusive chants at the coach.
Even so, he leaves with a strong record. He won the Copa do Brasil in 2024, then lifted the Libertadores, the Campeonato Carioca and the Brasileirão in 2025.
