Conmebol cancelled Flamengo’s Libertadores match at Independiente Medellín after serious disorder by home supporters. José Boto has called on Conmebol to award Flamengo the three points.
According to Coluna Do Fla, play in Medellín was halted within minutes at Estadio Atanasio Girardot, then, after a prolonged suspension, the game was cancelled. Home fans were protesting, throwing explosive devices, setting fires in the stands and attempting to enter the pitch.
Boto said he expects a swift decision to grant those points, stressing it is not how Flamengo wanted to benefit. He argued it would be fair because the club had no responsibility for the incidents.
Following the cancellation, the team left for Medellín airport and will fly to Porto Alegre to prepare for their Brasileirão meeting with Grêmio on Sunday 10. Kick-off is at 19:30 Brasília time at Arena do Grêmio.
The fixture formed part of the fourth round of the Libertadores group stage.
