Flamengo’s unveiling of Lucas Paquetá brought a pointed nod to Vinícius Júnior’s future, with football director José Boto saying the door would be open, noting the forward’s deal is nearing its end and arguing Real Madrid might not be due a fee. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the remarks have not gone down well at the Bernabéu.

Paquetá is a close friend of Vinícius and Flamengo could lean on that bond. The winger’s Madrid contract runs to June 2027 and he has rejected the latest offer as below his expectations.

Madrid have parked negotiations until the season finishes, yet the emergence of alternatives works against them. Vinícius has long said he wants to stay, but jeers and the club’s stance have him weighing Saudi Arabia, a leading Premier League move or Paris Saint-Germain. From January next year he can talk to clubs and could depart for nothing.

He is seeking close to 30 million euros net per season to become the squad’s best paid. Madrid’s proposal runs to 2030 at around 20 million, with bonuses and deferred signing fees lifting the package beyond 25. His clause stands at 1,000 million, while Saudi suitors have signalled talks below that and offered the player 1,000 million over five seasons.

Flamengo believe patience could open a door. Carlo Ancelotti remaining with Brazil until 2030, following an agreement with the federation, is another factor Vinícius may weigh. For now, the Brazilian club’s posture complicates Madrid’s negotiating position.
