Flamengo swept aside Botafogo 3-0 in the clássico, with Léo Pereira and Pedro front and centre in the ratings.
According to Globo.com, Samuel Lino opened the scoring after Varela contested a ball on the right, with Léo Ortiz having picked out the full-back earlier in the move.
Léo Pereira then scored directly from a first-half free-kick, the standout moment, after Pedro drew the foul.
Pedro also prompted a late first-half red card for Barboza for a pull, and later finished from Varela’s cross after Lucas Paquetá released the full-back.
Rossi had little to do. Vitão was secure and completed every pass, while Alex Sandro led with four tackles but misplaced seven passes trying to build play. Erick Pulgar screened well yet was booked for a dangerous foul on the edge of the box.
Jorginho made an important block and an interception, and Carrascal covered ground with four tackles despite some poor choices in possession. Evertton Araújo looked assured and maintained the midfield bite.
Ayrton Lucas arrived from the bench and used the ball cleanly, while Plata and Luiz Araújo were late introductions. Leonardo Jardim’s side were organised, purposeful and rarely troubled, creating less but making it count when they arrived.
