Flamengo have begun talks to extend goalkeeper Rossi and centre-back Léo Pereira, whose contracts run until December 2027, and have signalled improved terms for both.

ESPN first reported the club’s interest in fresh deals. The plan is to step up talks soon, and the World Cup pause should accelerate the process.

Despite the long agreements, Flamengo want to avoid any risk of losing two automatic starters under Leonardo Jardim, standouts in last year’s Brasileirão and Libertadores triumphs. The intention in extending is to fend off outside interest, and Léo Pereira was approached by European clubs last year.

Both are 30. The defender is currently with Brazil and started the defeat to France in Thursday’s friendly, his first call-up, which further boosts his value.

The club also have other contract calls to make, with four senior players in the final year of their deals, Danilo, Alex Sandro, Bruno Henrique and Cebolinha.

Talks are open to keep Bruno Henrique. Flamengo are awaiting decisions from the centre-back and the left-back, with Danilo indicating he plans to retire at the end of the year, and Alex Sandro telling friends he may seek a less physically demanding market than Brazil. Cebolinha signalled last year that he wanted to leave, and the board are not pursuing a renewal for now.
