Flamengo’s fight for the Taça das Bolinhas was revived after a court halted its immediate handover to São Paulo and sent the dispute to Rio de Janeiro. The trophy remains with Caixa Econômica Federal.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Federal Court in São Paulo accepted the club’s appeal and cancelled the delivery order. The ruling is not final, it only suspends any transfer for now.

Created in 1975, the trophy rewards the first club with three successive Brazilian titles or five overall. Flamengo argue they hit five in 1992, counting the 1987 Copa União. Later rulings kept Sport as 1987 champions, prompting São Paulo’s pentacampeão claim after 2007.

Flamengo’s run includes 1980 over Atlético-MG, a 1-0 loss away then a 1-0 win at the Maracanã. In 1982, the final with Grêmio was settled 1-0 at the Estádio Olímpico by Nunes. In 1983, a 2-1 defeat to Santos at the Morumbi was overturned by a 3-0 home win from Zico, Leandro and Adílio.

In 1987, Flamengo won the Módulo Verde and beat Internacional. The CBF required a crossover with the Módulo Amarelo, which Flamengo and Internacional did not play, while Sport and Guarani did, and the CBF declared Sport champions.

Five years later, Flamengo beat Botafogo 3-0 then drew 2-2 to clinch 1992, with Júnior influential. For the club, that completed the penta and underpins their claim.
