Dani Olmo’s injury hands Hansi Flick a tough blow ahead of the team’s Champions League curtain-raiser against AS Monaco.

Just over a month after losing the Joan Gamper Trophy against the French opposition, the Catalans are set to face the Ligue 1 side again albeit away from home.

While team team is indeed flying, Olmo’s injury adds to the list of sidelined attacking midfielders where Frenkie de Jong, Gavi and Fermin Lopez already find themselves.

Unsurprisingly, La Masia houses the solution again it seems.

Talented brothers called up

As revealed in a recent update from SPORT, Hansi Flick oversaw the team’s penultimate training session before they travel to France earlier today and the session saw two new faces.

The prodigal cousins Toni Fernandez and Guille Fernandez both trained under the German manager’s command and have thus emerged as possibilities to travel with the team for the game.

Indeed, it is not the first time the Fernandez brothers are training with the first team. In fact, Guille even made the team’s squad to face Girona earlier this week.

Earlier this month, both players scored minutes apart in Barça Atletic’s clash against Ourense and both broke records on the night. While Toni became the youngest goalscorer in Barça Atletic history, Guille became the third youngest.

With the manager’s limited options in midfield a big concern, one or both of the players could enter the roster against Monaco.

While Toni is already on the B list of players for Barcelona’s UCL campaign, Guille can be added up to 24 hours before kickoff.

There is still one training session before Barcelona travel to Monaco and what the youngsters display in that period could prove decisive. After all, they are among the highest-rated players in the academy.
