Jean-Louis Gasset died on Friday morning aged 72, prompting tributes from across football.

According to L'Équipe, Ivorian federation president Yacine Idriss Diallo, who appointed him national coach, praised a principled, compassionate figure who guided players for more than 30 years.

From Marseille, where he coached in 2024, the club highlighted his calm, balance and insight, and said he was fair, attentive and respected in the dressing room. Amine Harit, Medhi Benatia and Leonardo Balerdi shared heartfelt memories and condolences.

Samuel Gigot, now at Lazio, remembered a humorous, close and tactically shrewd leader. Luis Fernandez recalled productive spells together at Paris Saint-Germain and Espanyol, saying Gasset excelled as an assistant with outstanding people skills. PSG added he left only good memories and remained attached to the club.

Montpellier called him a club child and a defining figure, offering condolences to his family, including Robin, Coralie and his mother Eliane. Bordeaux noted the 2009 title won with him on staff and his later return as coach. Saint-Étienne, Kylian Mbappé, Philippe Diallo and Rolland Courbis each saluted his legacy.
