At the age of 68, former Bundesliga coach Lucien Favre has officially called time on his coaching career.
The ex-Hertha BSC, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund coach was last in charge of OGC Nice, whom he left in January 2023. Since then, Favre has decided to step back from top-level coaching.
“It’s good for me the way it is. I decided a while ago because I felt everything has been done, it’s enough,” Favre told Blick.
The Swiss coach added that he received offers from Europe and Saudi Arabia after leaving Nice.
“I politely declined because it’s definitely over. Most people understood my message. You can always ask, but the answer remains clear: it’s finished,” he said.
“I’ve done enough, it’s enough,” Favre continued, confirming he has no interest in a different role within football.
Favre won the Swiss championship twice with FC Zürich before moving to Germany, where he claimed the German Supercup with Borussia Dortmund.
He spent the most time – around three and a half years – with Borussia Mönchengladbach, managing the club for 189 games.
One of his greatest achievements at Borussia-Park was saving the team from relegation after taking over in February 2011.
He later guided Die Fohlen to an impressive third-place finish in the Bundesliga in the 2014/15 season.
