Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Punch Masenamela has been appointed as the new head coach at ABC Motsepe League outfit Mavabaza United FC.

The North West team recently secured the status of Platinum City Rovers, who were relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship after a bottom-placed finish in the 2023/24 campaign.

Masenamela is no stranger to third tier football since his retirement, as he was an assistant coach to fellow ex-Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi at Dolphins FC back in 2023.

He carved his own path during the 2024/25 season, where he was in charge of Limpopo-based amateur club Sunrise FC.

Now, Masenamela is set for a new chapter with Mavabaza, who currently sit fifth in Stream A, having picked up 13 points from six league outings.

The 39-year-old mentor will take charge of his first match on Saturday, 17 January when his new team squares off against log leaders Army Rockets FC.

During his heyday, Masenamela lifted the Telkom Knockout Cup with Chiefs in the 2010/11 campaign, before being crowned South African champion with Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2013/14 term.
