Former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt says his former club cannot be written off in the Champions League this season despite their disappointing Premier League season.
Kuyt spent six years as a player at Liverpool, and was speaking after playing in the annual LFC Foundation charity match at Anfield.
The former forward also says he is proud to see so many Dutchmen involved at the club, including boss Arne Slot and players Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Jeremie Frimpong and Cody Gakpo.

“It’s amazing to have so many Dutch people involved in the club at the moment, not only on the pitch but with the staff and the manager Arne Slot,” Kuyt said.
“Of course last season was something really amazing, to win the league, and I think this year the team is working really hard to get that momentum back again.
“It was a privilege to see Liverpool doing really well in the Champions League at home against Galatasaray.
“Of course we want them to do better in the Premier League but if you want to have success, you have to work really hard and I’m sure they will keep working really hard, get that momentum back an hopefully it will be enough to at least reach the Champions League spot in the Premier League.”
Liverpool face PSG in the quarter finals of the Champions League, and Kuyt believes his former club cannot be ruled out as potential winners of the competition.
“But who knows? Liverpool has always been a team that can have a lot of success in Europe and they can still do it this year in the Champions League,” he said.
