Former Lyon team-mates and hundreds of supporters gathered in Lyon on Monday for the funeral of Bryan Bergougnoux, 10 days after his sudden death aged 43.
The service took place at the Salle de la Ficelle in the Croix-Rousse district. According to Le Progrès, nearly 400 people attended. Bergougnoux won three Ligue 1 titles with Lyon in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
He also played for Toulouse, Lecce, Châteauroux, Omonia Nicosia and Tours. The former forward had been assistant to Didier Digard at Le Havre last season. He died on Friday 29 May.
Among those present were Vikash Dhorasoo, Cris, Sylvain Wiltord, Caçapa and Sidney Govou. Many OL supporters also attended the ceremony.
Digard recalled Bergougnoux’s constant smile and portrayed him as the embodiment of kindness and loyalty. He joked that, aside from an unshakeable bias for Lyon, even his galette des rois came from the city.
