Kelvin de Lang has resigned from his role of chief Scout at Ajax a year and a half early. The 44-year-old had a contract with Ajax that was set to run until the middle of 2027 but has decided to leave his position early. De Lang took over as the scouting lead at Ajax in 2023 following years at Manchester City. During his first season at the club he had to take up the role as Deputy Technical Director as well. Ajax have not yet confirmed who will be replacing de Lang when he departs on the 1st of January 2026.

Why has de Lang decided to leave the club? According to ESPN, there have been disagreements between de Lang, Alex Kroes as Technical Director and Marijn Beuker as Director of Football. The three were to work closely in order to turn things around at Ajax, but in recent times de Lang has felt that his scouting team have not been listened to enough.

Given that Ajax have struggled since the departure of both Marc Overmars and Erik ten Hag to put together a squad capable of winning the Eredivisie and compete in Europe, fans will hope that the next person to take up the role will be allowed to have a greater influence on signings and begin to turn things around. On the pitch at least, Fred Grim and his staff have brought some positive changes in terms of results. Ajax are currently on a four game winning streak and won their first game in the Champions League last week.
