Despite being far from France, Pablo Longoria is still making headlines stateside. Relieved of his duties as president of Olympique de Marseille last March, the 40-year-old executive wasted no time in finding a new role, taking charge of River Plate’s sporting department just one month later.

Tasked by his president, Stéfano Di Carlo, with carrying out an ambitious transfer campaign, Longoria wasted no time in getting down to work, initially securing the signings of Nicolás Otamendi (38) and Mauro Arrambari (30), with the latter set to be officially announced shortly.

Two established players whom the Spaniard would like to bolster with another major signing. That is why, according to reports from TyC Sports, he now wants to focus on bringing his former protégé Facundo Medina (27) back to the club where he came through the ranks.

While this is a difficult task, given that Olympique de Marseille have only just secured the Argentine on a permanent basis and are not keen to let him go at the moment, Longoria does not consider it impossible and may make another push after the World Cup.

Having had his season cut short by injuries, Medina has made just 26 appearances in all competitions (24 as a starter), but nevertheless still looks set to be the future of Olympique’s defence.
