“He Has Been Brilliant and I’m Not Going to Suddenly Change my Mind!”

It has been a rough few days for Liverpool, first of all crashing out of the UEFA Champions League against PSG before losing in the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United. Despite the Reds’ absolute dominance in the Premier League, the two recent defeats have raised a few questions over the depth and quality of the squad and also a few decisions from head coach Arne Slot.

The timing of this poor run of form couldn’t have been worse for the Reds, with now just the Premier League title to play for. Thankfully, Slot’s side have worked hard to build up a 12 point gap ahead of title rivals Arsenal and need just five more wins to secure the title.

“I’m Not Going to Suddenly Change My Mind!”

“He has done absolutely brilliant this season,” began Sherwood, “And I’m not going to just change my mind because of one week of football.”

“Losing to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup will have been disappointing for him but he has done a wonderful job and I really like him.”

“He gets upset just like every manager should and he seems like he is really firm with his players, which is a good thing and he really knows what he wants.”

As Sherwood rightly points out, it’s crucial to remember just how impressive this season has been under Slot. The Dutchman came into the club when the mood was well and truly dampened around the club following the departure of the iconic Jurgen Klopp.

Of course it’s hugely disappointing to be out of the UEFA Champions League so early, with European glory being a major foundation of the club’s history but it cannot be forgotten the desperation behind this upcoming Premier League title.

Looking Ahead

“They will hopefully back him in the summer transfer window as Premier League champions,” continued Sherwood, “But that all depends on which of three three out-of-contract players stay at the club.”

“Losing any of them would be a huge blow and could move them back amongst the hunting pack below them.”

This if course referring to the futures of Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who all have just three months remaining on their current deals at Liverpool.

Academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold is seemingly leaning towards a move to Real Madrid, with very little updates on any sort of progress in talks with his camp.

Furthermore, PSG are launching a strong push to sign Virgil Van Dijk with the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also expected to be interested in the Dutchman.

It has been eerily silent over the future of Salah with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League still lingering, but that’s about it.

The situation is hugely frustrating and worrying, but for now all we can focus on five more wins to clinch that Premier League title and finally celebrate in front of our brilliant fans.

“But for me, Slot has done a magnificent job and you can’t argue with what he has done for that football club,” ended Sherwood.
