Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is open to the possibility of joining Barcelona following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona’s goalkeeper situation has become a topic of debate following Ter Stegen’s potentially season-ending knee injury during last night’s 5-1 win over Villarreal.

The Blaugrana currently have only one first-team goalkeeper, Inaki Pena, with the rest coming from their B team.

As things stand, if Barça want to reinforce the position immediately, they can only sign free agents, making Navas an attractive option.

Navas open to the move

Navas is currently a free agent after his contract with PSG expired. The 37-year-old former Real Madrid mainstay is eager to continue his playing career at the highest level and would view a move to the Catalan giants favourably.

As per the report, Navas is willing to listen to offers from Barcelona and would be happy to join the Blaugrana despite his past allegiance with their rivals.

The three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid has been training daily in Costa Rica throughout the summer, keeping himself in top shape while awaiting resolution on his future.

Key factors that could facilitate the move

One of the major factors which could facilitate the transfer is the fact that Navas is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has excellent relations with Barcelona and has helped the club with several deals in the past.

Moreover, the Costa Rican goalkeeper has maintained a rigorous training regimen in his homeland, ensuring he’s prepared for any opportunity that arises.

Navas’ wage demands have previously been a stumbling block for clubs – Gremio publicly stated they could not afford his wages.

However, the report suggests that his primary motivation is to secure regular game-time, which could make him more flexible in salary negotiations.

The Costa Rican international has overcome back problems that troubled him last season and finished his PSG tenure with some impressive performances.

With three Champions League titles under his belt, Navas brings a wealth of top-level experience that could be invaluable to Barcelona.

As Barcelona weigh their options in light of Ter Stegen’s absence, the possibility of signing a goalkeeper with Navas’ pedigree for free could prove an intriguing solution.
