Wolves return at West Ham next Friday needing a near-perfect run ahead. Memories of a rare Upton Park high, the 3-1 win in March 2010, have been revisited by Karl Henry, David Jones and Matt Jarvis. As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, the trio have looked back on that night.
Back then Wolves were 16th, four clear, with West Ham 17th and a point behind. Kevin Doyle dispossessed James Tomkins and finished from a tight angle before the break, after Scott Parker had hit the inside of a post and Marcus Hahnemann saved the follow-up.
After the interval Jones set up both goals, first releasing Ronald Zubar on 58 minutes, then feeding Jarvis to make it 3-0 three minutes later. The hosts pulled one back late on, but Wolves had long taken charge.
Even so, Wolves have won only four of 25 away at West Ham. Two came under Nuno Espirito Santo, including Adama Traore’s stoppage-time winner in 2018/19 and a 2-0 behind closed doors.
Jones and Jarvis recall a tight-knit group whose structures eased pressure and allowed them to build after Doyle’s opener. Henry highlights the side’s balance and work ethic, praising Doyle’s running and the midfield’s care of the ball.
Now Wolves are 13 points from safety with seven to play after a 25-day hiatus. Jarvis says a pause can refresh and that players will keep giving everything, while Henry sees time for Rob Edwards to work on the training ground. Another result next Friday would keep hopes flickering.
