Foyth injury concern as Villarreal defender suffers left Achilles issue against Real Madrid

Juan Foyth left injured at Estadio de la Cerámica on Saturday night, the Villarreal defender and one of the club’s captains forced off in the 23rd minute against Real Madrid with a left Achilles injury.

The club said at half-time it was an Achilles tendon injury to his left leg, pending further examination, with tests to follow.

The Argentina international appeared to catch his foot in the turf during a Real Madrid attack inside the area, then fell and immediately clutched his left leg.

Renato Veiga and Luiz Júnior signalled urgently for medical help. Marcelino García Toral made an early change, introducing Rafa Marín in central defence.

If the damage is serious, the setback could keep Foyth out of the World Cup.
