Fran García close to joining Real Betis | OneFootball

According to Superdeporte, Fran García is close to joining Real Betis, becoming their second summer addition after Uruguayan pivot Facundo Bernal, as the club prepares for a Champions League return after 20 years.

The left back will leave Real Madrid after three seasons in which his prominence under Xabi Alonso first, then Álvaro Arbeloa, has sharply declined. With Marc Cucurella arriving recently and Álvaro Carreras also an option, José Mourinho appears well covered at left back.

For Betis, García’s capture is both exciting and necessary. Ricardo Rodríguez has departed at the end of his two-year deal, opening the door for competition with the injury prone Junior Firpo. García would start as favourite to command the left flank.

With García’s arrival imminent, Betis will now focus on refreshing their attack, particularly centre forward. The exits of Bakambu and Chimy Ávila at contract end make striker recruitment a priority to spark fresh Champions League nights.

Fábio Silva is the favourite target, as in the last winter window.
