Barcelona have been searching for a new number nine to fill the boots left behind by Robert Lewandowski when the Pole left the club at the end of last season.

Although the priority for the Catalan club has been to sign Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, that deal does not seem realistic at the moment.

The club tested the waters with the possibility of signing Eli Junior Kroupi from Bournemouth, but that quickly fizzled out too.

Thus, Barça may be forced to look at other alternatives, with free agent Dusan Vlahovic emerging as a potential option.

The 26-year-old has offered himself to Barcelona previously but the club hasn’t acted upon the situation yet. He is currently a free agent after the expiry of his Juventus contract.

Now, according to journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona could receive an unexpected boost if they decide to pursue the Serbian.

Vlahovic is willing to make a financial sacrifice to join the Catalan club. He is demanding a significantly higher salary from clubs in Turkey than he is asking from Barcelona.

This suggests that Vlahovic views a move to Camp Nou differently from other opportunities currently available.

Barcelona appeal remains strong

Despite the Serbian’s readiness to sacrifice, this does not necessarily mean Barça are actively negotiating to sign him this summer.

However, should the Catalan club not be able to land their preferred targets, they could turn to a low-cost alternative like Vlahovic.

In such a scenario, the player’s willingness to make a sacrifice could align with Barça’s desire to keep their finances in check.

Playing for the Catalan club obviously means a lot for players, and it is understandable if Vlahovic sees Barça differently from other clubs.

A move still depends on Barcelona

While Vlahovic may be open to accepting a lower salary, Barcelona would still need to decide whether he fits Hansi Flick’s long-term plans.

The club have spent much of the summer exploring different attacking profiles, including younger options with greater resale value.

Vlahovic, by contrast, would offer proven experience at the highest level. His physical presence, penalty-box instincts and ability to lead the line could provide Barcelona with a different attacking dimension.

The next few weeks could provide a clear picture of who Barcelona target as their new number nine.

Vlahovic is just one among many names on the list, and it remains to be seen whether the club make a move for him in the near future.
