Freiburg in advanced negotiations to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Igor Matanović | OneFootball

According to a report from Bild, Freiburg are in advanced negotiations to sign Igor Matanović (22) from fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. Stuttgart and Augsburg have also shown interest in signing the Croatian striker, but SCF are in pole position.

This comes with the impending transfer of Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz for a reported €25m, and with Michy Batshuayi and Hugo Ekitiké both at the club, Matanović is likely to get fewer than his 300 minutes in the Bundesliga last season, which resulted in one goal in 16 league games.

Bild report that the transfer fee will be around €8m, an excellent return on the €500k they invested on the player from St. Pauli in January 2021. Upon a potential departure from Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt should also receive a percentage of his next fee.

Although there’s still figures to go over, Matanović’s transfer to Freiburg is accelerating, and the player would like to join his new club as early as possible.
