Andrés Gómez is Vasco’s representative at the 2026 World Cup, extending São Januário’s rich World Cup story. The Colombian becomes the club’s 35th distinct player to appear at the tournament since 1930.

According to Globo.com, Vasco are fourth on Brazil’s all-time list of World Cup call-ups, behind Botafogo, São Paulo and Flamengo. In all, 35 Vasco players have represented the Seleção at World Cups. Non-Brazil call-ups include Martín Silva for Uruguay in 2014 and 2018, and now Gómez for Colombia.

Four club representatives have lifted the trophy. In 1958 Orlando, Bellini and Vavá were part of Brazil’s first title. Bellini captained the side and became the first Brazilian to raise the World Cup, a gesture that endures.

In 1994 Ricardo Rocha was Vasco’s representative for Brazil’s fourth crown.

Only three players have appeared in multiple editions while at the club, Ely do Amparo in 1950 and 1954, Roberto Dinamite in 1978 and 1982, and Martín Silva in 2014 and 2018.
