From Tottenham to Tuscany: Fabio Paratici’s Fiorentina Mission

Fiorentina have turned to seasoned sporting director Fabio Paratici as they battle the drop. The Viola are in their most perilous spell for years, ahead of their centenary.

According to Football Italia, the ex-Juventus and Spurs figure wanted a return to Italy after about four-and-a-half years in England, while the club needed experience after dismissing Daniele Pradè following a disastrous summer window.

There is almost no margin for error, and the passing of President Rocco Commisso has been a major blow that requires time to absorb, time they do not have. If Paratici does not start fast, Serie B next season is a real risk.

January was about repairs, with Manor Solomon on loan from Spurs and Jack Harrison adding width after left-back Fabiano Parisi was used on the right. Daniele Rugani arrived late to bolster defence. None looks transformational.

Pablo Mari departed, while Hans Nicolussi Caviglia, Edin Dzeko and Simon Sohm also left, underlining how wrong last summer went. Paratici may be left with players the club could not shift, so he must find roles or plan summer exits.

Next season's division remains uncertain despite flickers of life. Recruitment would look very different in the second tier, and retaining the biggest names could be tough. Several January deals appear to hinge on survival, which can drive commitment but also leave baggage.

Few would envy the task, yet Paratici seems qualified. If he keeps Fiorentina up, it would be a first step towards easing unrest, and a future trophy could elevate him.
