Manchester City’s long-standing number one choice goalkeeper Ederson now appears to be closing in on an exit from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

What was viewed as unthinkable by some supporters this summer is now edging closer to reality — Manchester City may soon part ways with Ederson, a goalkeeper who has been at the heart of their success under Pep Guardiola.

After eight glittering seasons filled with silverware and iconic moments, the 31-year-old Brazilian looks poised to begin a new chapter, with Turkish champions Galatasaray accelerating talks in recent days.

City have seemingly been planning for this eventuality for some time, with Ederson’s future first cast into doubt last summer when interest emerged from Saudi Arabia, laying the groundwork for a departure either then or in the transfer markets that followed.

The club’s openness to negotiate now stems not just from age or contract status — which expires in 2026 — but also from the wider need to refresh the goalkeeping department as part of a gradual squad transition under Pep Guardiola.

Galatasaray’s pursuit has intensified this week, with the Turkish giants also reportedly exploring deals for the likes of Manuel Akanji and İlkay Gündoğan, and while those negotiations remain in flux, Ederson talks have gathered the most momentum.

According to new information of GalaHaberNet on X, Galatasaray are now close to reaching an agreement with both Manchester City and Ederson for a transfer of the Brazilian international goalkeeper this summer.

It is detailed that the intention is for a €9 million transfer fee for the 31-year-old, in addition to a €7 million annual salary agreement with the legendary goalkeeper.

Such figures represent a significant commitment from the Turkish Super Lig winners, but also a bargain when placed in the context of Ederson’s pedigree gained over the course of his Manchester City and Premier League career.

The Brazil international has lifted six Premier League titles, a Champions League, four League Cups, two FA Cups, and played a starring role in City’s 2022/23 treble-winning campaign, potentially making him one of the most high-profile signings in Galatasaray’s recent history.

From City’s perspective, a departure would leave Pep Guardiola needing to make a major call in goal. Stefan Ortega Moreno has yet to commit to staying and is believed to want a starting role wherever he plays next.

City have explored a range of replacements throughout the course of the summer, with FC Porto and Portugal international goalkeeper Diogo Costa the leading name in various quarters.

The coming days are likely to be crucial. Should Galatasaray finalise terms on a fee and salary, and Ederson officially green-lights the move, Manchester City will seemingly be in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper for the first time since 2017.
