Manchester City appear to be closing in on a parting of ways with long-standing number one choice goalkeeper Ederson, according to new reports in Turkey.

The Brazil international has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2017, becoming a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s most successful era at the club while amassing a staggering 372 appearances in all competitions.

In that time, Ederson has lifted every available piece of silverware – including six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. But after eight years of elite-level service, both club and player appear to be entering the final stages of their journey together.

Ederson has been the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs in each of the past two summer transfer windows, but concrete progress toward a departure has only emerged more recently.

Galatasaray have emerged as a surprise but serious suitor, as the Turkish champions look to bolster their squad with proven European experience ahead of a UEFA Champions League campaign. The Istanbul club’s admiration has coincided with broader conversations, including exploratory talks around Manuel Akanji and İlkay Gündoğan.

While a number of uncertainties have surrounded Ederson’s future – not least due to his contract expiring in 2026 – this development signals that a concrete move could now be edging closer. City, meanwhile, are assessing several replacement options, particularly Burnley’s James Trafford – an Etihad Stadium academy graduate.

According to the information of Turkish outlet Sabah, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, a transfer fee of €10 million has now been agreed between Galatasaray and Manchester City for Ederson.

It is claimed that the Turkish Super Lig giants will pay the sum in instalments and negotiations will now continue with Ederson’s agent over the Brazilian’s salary demands ahead of the proposed switch.

On the subject of a salary package, the report suggests that Ederson is currently holding out for €10 million a season, while Galatasaray are hoping the 31-year-old will accept €7.5 million alongside the attractive lower tax rates in Turkey.

While there is still ground to cover before any deal is officially confirmed, it is now clear that Galatasaray are serious about finalising the agreement quickly – particularly with the new European season drawing closer.

For City, a departure would not only bring an end to an era between the posts but could also pave the way for significant tactical evolution. Pep Guardiola has leaned on Ederson’s unrivalled distribution and command of build-up play in recent years, and any replacement will need to match those technical demands.

As one of the final remaining members of Pep Guardiola’s original title-winning squad, Ederson’s potential exit would represent a symbolic shift as well as a strategic one. For Galatasaray, however, the addition of a Champions League-winning goalkeeper in his prime could prove transformative both on the pitch and in commercial terms.
