However, Liam Delap suffered a serious hamstring injury at the end of August, and Chelsea decided to recall Guiu to provide cover.

Marc Guiu frustrated with lack of game time at Chelsea

Guiu has had to be patient since returning to Chelsea, and got his first minutes of the season as a second half substitute in the win against Liverpool.

Tyrique George had been preferred to Guiu by Maresca, a decision which is sure to have frustrated the young Spaniard.

How many opportunities the Spain under-21 international is likely to get remains to be seen, but they will drastically reduce once Delap returns to fitness.

Given the 19-year-old has now played for Chelsea, he can’t play for another club unless it’s Sunderland, as rules dictate you can’t play for more than two clubs in the same season.

However, Give Me Sport have reported Guiu is eyeing a returning to Sunderland as he’s frustrated with his lack of game time at Stamford Bridge.

The report adds Guiu wants to return to Sunderland on loan in January, with Chelsea not wanting to sanction a permanent sale as they want to keep the teenager for the full season.

Emanuel Emegha to join from Strasbourg in 2026

Whilst the teenager may remain at Chelsea for this season, it’s hard to see him being at the club beyond next summer given the competition in his position.

Chelsea have both Delap and Joao Pedro, whilst Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha will join next summer, and the 22-year-old has already penned a seven year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Emegha’s arrival forces Guiu even further down the pecking order, and if he wants regular football he will more than likely have to leave Stamford Bridge.
