Fulham have opened fresh discussions with Marco Silva over a new deal, signalling their intent to retain the Portuguese coach despite the club’s early-season struggles. The talks come at a time when Fulham are hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone and speculation has surfaced over Silva’s long-term future.
Owner Shahid Khan is currently in London, leading negotiations with Silva’s representatives regarding an extension to a contract that expires at the end of the current season. The Fulham hierarchy are keen to end uncertainty surrounding the manager’s position and have reportedly tabled a detailed new offer designed to keep him at Craven Cottage for the long term.
Sources close to the situation indicate that while the club’s proposal is ready, a quick decision is not expected. Silva is known for his methodical approach and is likely to request detailed assurances about Fulham’s sporting vision before committing. Despite being under pressure following a run of five defeats in six matches, he remains highly respected within the club and across Europe for the stability and competitiveness he has brought to the Cottagers since his arrival in 2021.

Behind the scenes, some tension remains over Fulham’s summer transfer window, which Silva publicly described as “frustrating.” The manager made no secret of his disappointment with what he called a “passive” approach in the market and admitted that he “expected more” in terms of squad strengthening. That sense of dissatisfaction has lingered through a poor start to the campaign, with injuries and inconsistency exposing the lack of depth in key areas.
Fulham’s recent 2–0 defeat at Everton raised fresh concerns about confidence and creativity in attack. Silva, candid as ever, accepted that his side “got what they deserved” on Merseyside. Yet internally, club officials continue to back him, recognising both his tactical acumen and his role in turning Fulham into a stable top-flight outfit after years of fluctuation between divisions.
Since taking charge four years ago, Silva has transformed Fulham’s trajectory. He led them to Championship promotion in his first season and secured successive mid-table Premier League finishes — 10th, 13th, and 11th — a level of consistency rare for the club in recent history. Last season’s 54-point haul represented a club record in the Premier League era, evidence of tangible progress under his leadership.
It is understood Silva’s current contract includes a £15 million release clause, protecting Fulham’s interests should another club make an approach. He has previously turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, preferring to continue his project in West London. Fulham’s decision to press ahead with a new deal underlines their belief that Silva is central to their long-term plans, even amid short-term difficulties.
While Khan’s confidence in his manager remains firm, the discussions are expected to cover wider strategic issues — particularly recruitment, youth development, and the club’s future investment in the playing squad. Silva, who has been linked with roles at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in the past year, is understood to want guarantees that Fulham’s ambitions will match his own.
The coming weeks may prove pivotal. A positive run of results could ease pressure and accelerate the agreement, while continued struggles could complicate talks. However, both parties remain optimistic that a renewed partnership can be agreed, reinforcing Silva’s role at the heart of Fulham’s Premier League future.
