Fulham issued a statement after Callum Osmond was announced by Celtic. The London club wished the Welsh striker well but there was certainly a steely tone in their well wishes towards the starlet.

In a statement posted on Monday afternoon, the Premier League side confirmed that the player had decided to move on but revealed that the player rejected a contract offer to make the switch.

“Callum Osmand has joined Celtic.

“The Under-21s striker was offered a new contract at Fulham but has opted to join the Scottish side.

“Callum, who joined Fulham at the age of 13, scored 18 goals for the U21s side last season.

“We wish Callum the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”

There is definitely an underlying tone to the statement from Fulham, clearly they are disappointed to lose a youth player. There are echoes of the 2016 transfer that saw Moussa Dembele swap Fulham for Celtic; although, at that point, the Frenchman was established in the first team with the then Championship side.

Matt O’Riley is said to have had an influence in taking the talent from Craven Cottage to Paradise. Hopefully he has a similar impact at the club. It remains to be seen what role Osmond plays at Celtic next season as it appeared that Celtic would go into the market for a first pick attacker, with Kyogo leaving for Rennes in January.

There is an argument that Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah can compete with each other for the starting berth with Osmond offering support in a supplementary role. This would require Celtic to acquire additional wide attackers rather than an out and out striker, like Brondby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden.
